The Independent National Electoral Commission is an acronym for the Independent National Electoral Commission. The body is responsible for the conduct of elections and the general electoral process of the nation.

The commission was founded by the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, since then has been obliged for the registration, conduct, and supervision of both federal and state government elections of the federation.

Responsibilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission 

Underlisted are the duties, functions, or responsibilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission 

• Conduct voter and civic education; they are responsible for orienting the citizens of Nigeria on both voter and civic matters 
• The agency is also responsible for monitoring the operation and organization of the political parties, their conventions, finances, congresses, and party primary elections.
• It provides guiding rules and regulations for political parties 
• It is also responsible for political campaigns 
• Supervision and organized all elections in the federation ranging from the president of the Federal Republic of the nation, Vice president, Governors, and other federal and state government positions.
• Registering Political Parties following the Constitution and an act of the National Assembly.
• Registration of voters in preparation for the general Election; the agency is responsible for registering voters and orienting them on the election process 
• Issuance and maintenance of Voter’s Card: INEC is the only approved agency obliged to issue voter cards and register voters for an election

INEC Recruitment Requirements and Qualifications:

Any applicant who meets the stipulated requirements for the recruitment proceeding can go ahead and apply for the job. Below highlighted are the conditions necessary for the application.

• WASSCE – Five credit passes in English, Mathematics, and three other subjects of relevance (not more than one sitting)
• BSC – at least second-class Honors in any science discipline from an accredited school 
• HND, ND, NCE – with Distinction in affiliated discipline 
• NYSC certificate, Discharge Certificate, or exemption permit 
• Federal Government employee at least level grade 07-09

Note: The Independent National Electoral Commission is not responsible for any form of election misconduct such as; ballot box hijacking, election rigging, forgery of voters’ cards, bribery, and other vices. Any of such culprits shall be sanctioned.

Other Requirements of INEC Recruitments include:

• Possession of a good knowledge of computers and their basic applications for prompt, effective, and efficient delivery of any assigned duty.
• The applicants must be a citizen of the Nigerian 
• Must be willing to work in a new environment away from his/her residence
• The applicant must be fit for the job, physically, mentally, and intellectually 
• The candidate must not be beyond 35 years old
• Candidates must have an authenticated means of identification viz; driver’s license, National Identification Card, International passport, Voters card, etc
• Certificate of State of Origin with signature duly appended from the authorized quarter
• Must have good communication/interpersonal skills
• Must be a good team player
• Must not have any traced history of criminal or fraudulent act
