About Nigerian Navy

The history of the Nigerian Navy can be traced as far back as 1914 after the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria. It originated from the Nigeria Marine. This arm of the Nigerian Armed Forces was created in 1887. It was coiled from the Royal Navy which was the maritime department of the colonial state. The Royal Navy was the approved naval force in Nigeria when she was still being colonized by Britain.

After the independence, the department was reintroduced as a quasi-military organization and was given the name ‘Nigerian Navy’ in 1963. It combines the responsibilities of the latter-day Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Nigerian Navy. The department was ladened with extra-constitutional tasks and coastguard duties in 1964 after the enaction of the Navy Act, of 1964 The duties included making oceanic surveys, training officers in naval duties, and aiding in the administration of customs laws.

Eligibility for the Nigerian Navy

To be eligible to apply for the Nigerian Navy, you must:

Be a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
Have at least an SSCE, NCE, OND, BSc, and any other higher certificate.
Be between the ages of 18 – 22 years for SSCE holders and 18 – 26 years for applicants with higher qualifications.

Not be below 1.69m in height for males and 1.65m in height for females.
