About California Scholarship Federation, Inc.
This is a non-profit organization located in California. Its mission is to identify and reward community service and academic achievement amongst high and middle school students in California. The Federation is divided into chapters, and there are currently approximately 1,500 chapters in high schools and middle schools across the state.
Each chapter is led by a staff adviser and is made up of members who meet the eligibility criteria and are students. Students who meet up with the requirements are expected to submit applications based on their report card grades in order to become members.
The duration for membership is one semester and membership drives are held every semester. Annual conferences are also held where students’ achievements and community service are rewarded by giving them presents.
The proposition for the establishment of this school to honor outstanding high school students was first introduced by Mr. Charles F. Seymour who was the then vice-principal of National City High School in San Diego County. He achieved another feat in 1916 when he organized a scholarship society on his campus. Through the five (5) years that Mr. Seymour pushed for his idea, he managed to convince a number of schools to organize similar societies.
California Scholarship Federation became a reality after a committee of five began working on a constitution which was later ratified on 15th October. After its ratification, up to thirty-four (34) schools applied for charter membership.
Now the school offers two (2) types of scholarships. They include:
- Tuition scholarships; and
- California Junior Scholarship Federation

These scholarships were set aside specifically for CSF Life Members. This program also covers several colleges and universities. This started in 1925, and currently, there are still few colleges and universities in California that participate in this program. The award programs serve the purpose of recognizing the hard work of students.
- California Junior Scholarship Federation
This scholarship program was founded in 1967 to foster high standards of scholarship, citizenship and service in junior high grades and middle schools. This Federation accentuates service to the community and the school while promoting scholastic achievement.
