The academic union expressed their concerns over the delayed release of nearly eight months’ salaries of university academics due to the 2022 patriotic strike action and the government’s failure to implement the 2020 Memorandum of Action.

According to the ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, in his statement on Thursday, there is no justification for the non-release of the withheld salaries.

Osodeke argued that the “No-Work-No-Pay” policy against academics failed to consider that only the teaching component of their work was affected during the strike action.

ASUU boss, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed dissatisfaction at President Tinubu’s dissolution of the governing councils of Federal Universities at a National Executive Council meeting at the University of Maiduguri.

Moreover, ASUU discussed issues with the Nigerian University System at its NEC meeting, and the lecturers argue the move violates existing university laws and calls for council reinstatement for smooth university operations.

Lecturers also urged the president to expedite the renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU/FGN Agreement, following the Professor Nimi Briggs Committee’s recommendations, to restore the integrity of the Nigeria University System.
