The Consultant for Urban Immunization will focus on improving immunization coverage, particularly in urban slums, to address inequities in access to vaccination services.

Position: Consultant for Urban Immunization with a Focus on Zero Dose in Nigeria

Overview:  

UNICEF is dedicated to reaching the most disadvantaged children globally, ensuring their rights and well-being. In Nigeria, UNICEF operates in a humanitarian and developmental context, partnering with various stakeholders to protect children’s rights. The Consultant for Urban Immunization will focus on improving immunization coverage, particularly in urban slums, to address inequities in access to vaccination services.

Responsibilities:  

  • Analyze immunization coverage and equity situations, identifying reasons for lower coverage in specific population groups or geographical areas.
  • Identify constraints to improving coverage, including challenges related to service delivery, supply chain, data management, demand promotion, and financing.
  • Address gender-related barriers to vaccination by identifying and developing strategies to overcome social and financial restrictions on women’s mobility and decision-making.
  • Develop a contextualized framework and action plan for urban immunization, with a focus on zero dose, in Nigeria.
  • Present findings to relevant stakeholders and engage in dialogue to mobilize resources and support implementation.
  • Collaborate with immunization technical working groups, committees, and the private sector to develop materials and products for decision-making at the country level.

Qualifications:  

  • Advanced university degree (Masters) in health with expertise in immunization.
  • Five years of experience in health/immunization and development programs.
  • Strong technical knowledge of immunization curricula, tools, and resources.
  • Experience in program design, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation using quantitative and qualitative techniques.
  • Fluency in English is required.
