This scholarship was created to aid those who are experiencing difficulties financially and have already begun their academic journey, locally and internationally. The scholarship is strictly reserved for Borno state indigenes.

About Borno State Scholarship
The Ministry of Education in Borno State created this scholarship in January 1989. The scholarship board was established by Edict No. 3 when it was declared an independent body on 13th April 1989.
The Borno state government under the rulership of the previous governors and the incumbent governor, Governor Babagana U. Zulum, has created this welfare program as part of its obligation to the indigenous people of the state. This scholarship and the Bursary program are also part of its welfare packages.
The purpose of this scholarship is to aid students in different academic institutions and degrees of study with financial help to either begin or complete their studies. The government also has the goal to reduce the rate of illiteracy in the state. Many applicants over the years have been beneficiaries of this scholarship. This scholarship is free and those that are interested can apply through the Scholarship Board’s portal.

Eligibility For The Borno State Scholarship
To be eligible for the Borno State Scholarship Program, you must fulfill the following criteria. You must:
- be a Nigerian.
- be a Borno State Indigene.
- You have to be fluent in written and oral English.
- come from one of the eligible local governments.
- be a student in an approved Nigerian public university, polytechnics, college of education, or state university.
- You should have a CGPA of 3.0 and above.
- You must be studying any of the following courses: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Accountancy, and Engineering.
- You must be 25 years or less than 25 years at the time of application.
- It is important that you are not a beneficiary of any other scholarship.
- You must not be married, pregnant, or a parent (out of wedlock) at the time of the application.
- It must not be on record that you have been convicted of any crime.
- You must be willing to work for the government upon graduation.
For those who need the scholarship to study abroad, you must:
- be a Borno State resident currently admitted to any recognized institution outside the country.
- You must have graduated from an approved public secondary school or higher institution depending on the degree you have and the one you are going for.
- You must have graduated from school with at least a 3.5 CGPA.

For you to further qualify for the Borno State Scholarship, you must come from the following local governments. Only indigenes from these twenty-six local governments can apply for this scholarship. The states are mentioned below in no particular order. They include:

Duration Of The Scholarship
The duration of the Borno State Scholarship is not specified. However, according to 2 sources, it is for one year with effect from the date it was awarded. When the scholarship elapses, only interested undergraduate students can reapply for the upper year. Graduate students are not eligible to reapply.
Benefits Of The Scholarship
The Borno State government approves up to N611,979,000 to be awarded to students who qualify to receive the scholarship. Although, the exact amount that each student receives is not mentioned.
Nevertheless, the scholarship covers the following:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation and Living expenses.
- Meal allowances
- Academic supplies
The scholarship is fully funded and can be renewed every year. Also, graduates with high CGPAs are eligible for internships and job opportunities.

Requirements For The Borno State Scholarship
If you are eligible to apply for this scholarship, then you must have the following requirements for you to apply.
You must have your credentials which include your:
- First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).
- WAEC/GCE O’Level Examination.
- Admission letter.
- School ID.
- Certificate of Origin.
- Transcript or Statement of Result.
- A recent passport photograph.
You must need financial assistance.
You must have your N1000 application fee.
You must have two referees who are willing to stand in for you.
How To Apply For The Borno State Scholarship 2024/2025
Follow these steps to apply for the Borno State 2024/2025 scholarship program:
- Visit their official website at scholarship.bo.gov.ng Create an account with an accessible email and a password you can easily remember. If you formerly have an account, you can just log in.
- You have to check your email for a message to verify. Click the link to confirm that that is your email. After that, the login page will open up.
- Log in with the email and password you created. You will be diverted again. This time, to the payment page.
- Make a payment of N1,000. This is your application fee. After making your payment, you can now start your application.
- In the first stage of the application, you will be asked to submit your passport photo and fill in some necessary details. Click save and continue.
- The next step will require your academic details. You will be asked to fill in the name of your university and other information.
- Upload your documents in the required manner.
- After providing your academic information, you will be asked to provide your employment details if you are actively working or your employment history if you were previously employed.
- Next, you will be asked to provide your bank details.
- After that, the details of your two referees.
- You will then be directed to a page for uploading your documents and the required credentials.
- Make sure that every piece of information you provide is accurate, otherwise, you will be disqualified.
- After the online application, you will be asked to submit a hard copy of the following documents: your Application Form, Admission Letter, School ID, and Certificate of Origin to the Borno State Scholarship Board.
How To Check Your Application Status
Once you have successfully applied, you will be sent an email that your application has been successfully received.
